ABOUT US |
 |

Our club is held in the scout hut at the rear of St Pauls Church in Preston, Paignton. We have a small Axminster M600 for demonstations of the production of small items and more recently a larger Woodfast lathe which is capable of turning very large items e.g. bowls, platters, hollow forms etc. Major Club events involving a Professional Turner for a whole day are held in one of our member's large workshop which is well equipped with a V.B.36, a variable speed Graduate 54 and a Carbotec lathe with all the necessary ancillary equipment including a large bandsaw and grinders etc.
The lathes are used by club members to demonstrate their turning when a professional turner is not available. Turning is demonstrated on most club nights and can show how to do simple spindle work or more advanced turnings like hollow forms and inlaying. Members are encouraged to demonstrate some form of turning but this is not compulsory as not all members are happy to turn in front of a crowd. We also have a growing library of books videos and DVDs for our members to loan for a modest fee. During the evening we have a tea break and a raffle as well as the competition judging. Any member can enter the monthly competition with the subject of the turning given the previous month, a small prize is awarded to the winning piece.

The club is run by a committee of six members who meet at regular intervals outside the club. This committee makes decisions on future meetings and general running orders. These decisions are not entirely down to the committee as all club members are asked to make an input to the future running of the club.
Should you wish to ask any questions about the club or require further information about attending the next meeting then please contact the secretary, through the link below.
