LATHE TOOLREST


You will need 3 pieces of wood of the following sizes:

325mm long x 225mm wide x 18mm thick
325mm long x 80mm wide x 18mm thick.
325mm long x the gap in your lathe runners wide x 18mm thick.

1. Take the 325mm x 80mm piece and mark a centre line along the length.(40mm)
2. Now find the centre of this line and mark it.
3. From this centre point make four further marks (two each side) at 63mm centres.
4. At each of these marks drill a 40-45mm hole. You should end up with something like diagram A.

5. Cut the drilled wood in half along it length to end up with 2 identical pieces similar to diagram B

6. Take the 325mm x 225mm piece of wood and lay flat on the bench.
7. Place the two halves on top along each side.
8. Attach these using whatever you have, glue, screws, nails or a combination.
9. You should now have somthing resembling photo C.

10. Turn the rest over and lay it on the bench.
11. Mark a centre line along the length.
12. Attach the third piece of wood, that has a width the same as the gap in your runners, along the centre line using your preferred method.
